Mar. 26, 2006 Whether you like him or you hate him, Tucker Max (www.tuckermax.com) has made a name for himself by living the ultimate alpha life. He drinks excessively, and jumps from woman to woman the same way. He then takes these crazy stories of debauchery and posts them on his website for all to read. He has not only gained enough financial support from this site to live the life anyone would kill for, but he's also gained a legion of fans... and enemies. No matter what your stance is on Tucker Max, the fact remains. He used the first amendment in his favor, and he came out on top, once again proving that our forefathers must've known a little something about what they were doing. By Max's using the first amendment to gain monetary benefits and internet hero status and popularity, he has helped prove what makes this country so great. We are allowed to think for ourselves, and we are allowed to say what is on our minds. This is also the freedom that allows me, and many others to write about not only this case, but about anything we want. You see, there are those people in this world that also remind us why the first amendment can be a bad thing. There are people in this world that will remind us every day that our rights as humans and as Americans isn't celebrated by all, and it's these people that try to ruin it for the rest of us. Recently on Tucker Max's website, Tucker let everyone know that he's being sued. You can read about it here, here, and here. This man that is suing Tucker Max is Anthony DiMeo. Anthony DiMeo is an actor who was in such films as The Godfather Part 3 and such TV shows as The Sopranos. Mr. DiMeo is suing Mr. Max over an incident that happened at a bar. The problem isn't so much what happened at the bar, it's what the users of Tucker Max's forum said about DiMeo and the situation. DiMeo noticed a lot of posters on Tucker Max's forum belittling him and making light of the situation. He didn't like this, so he is now suing Tucker Max because of this. Basically, DiMeo is suing Tucker Max over the FREEDOM OF SPEECH. First of all, what DiMeo is passing up, is the fact that Tucker Max's website was made popular by the trial of Max to once girlfriend, former Miss Vermont Katy Johnson. The quick story on that... he dated Miss Vermont, the relationship turned sour, and he posted it on his website, just like he does with every other date that goes bad and has some humor to tell. Miss Johnson found out people were doing web searches to find her site and were coming across Tucker's and they were reading the stories and now her name is ruined. She took Tucker to court, to have the story banned from his site. She lost, the story stays, and now his site is so much bigger because of the publicity that trial received, that he can really only thank her for suing him. Mr. DiMeo is only going to do the same thing, or so it would seem. Early this year there was a law passed by President Bush that put a "prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity." Basically you can talk shit about someone on your website, forum, blog, or email as long as you do it under your real name. The problem here is, some of the posters on Tucker's forum were using a false identity, or a "handle" which a lot of people use online, including yours truly. This matter is now going to court, and this could basically decide the fate of our internet freedom as we know it. Tucker Max is fine, being that that is his real name. For some reason, no aspect of the stories that have been written of this case mention that. Apparently this new law keeps ANONYMOUS posters from saying bad things about others, but Tucker uses his real name on the site. I guess he's just in trouble for allowing anonymous posters to say the things they said. Many many others will be hurt by this though. People like me and even Maddox will more than likely have to shut down our sites if the absolute worse thing happens at the end of this trial. That's right ladies and gents, no more House o' Fun OR The Best Page In The Universe. Tucker Max put out a plea on his website for everyone that has a website to talk about this case, to get it to the light. Probably to drum up more publicity for his website, and that's fine. It's going to happen one way or another. But also to bring to light the situation. Ladies and gentlemen, our rights as U.S. citizens are now on trial. Our freedom is in question. Don't let this happen. Take a stand. Talk about this situation to everyone. If you don't have a website, you might know someone that does. Tell them about it and let them know that they can help as well. Maybe in the end we'll overcome this and our freedom and our rights will be safe once again. The thing I can't get past is, if this DiMeo guy was a decent enough guy that he could garner trust from those who support him and work around him and know him, then he shouldn't have to worry about what others say about him. If those that know him were to go to Tucker's website and read those posts made about him and change how they felt about the man, even though they work with him and know him, then that says a lot about him, doesn't it? He shouldn't have to worry about it at all, and the fact that he is shows the level of his character. Let's do what we can to fight for our rights people. We may only have this one chance. I hate having my rights taken away from me by some pussy ass cry baby. |
